ShutterCalls

Privacy policy

Last updated 25 September 2026

Who we are

ShutterCalls (shuttercalls.com) is a subscription directory of photography residencies, grants, awards and jobs, operated by North Star Media Pty Ltd, based in Australia. In this policy “we” and “us” means ShutterCalls. Questions or requests about your data go to hello@shuttercalls.com.

What we collect

  • Account details — your email address and a password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider). If you sign in with Facebook, we receive your name, email address and Facebook user ID. We never see your Facebook password and we don't post to Facebook.
  • Your choices — when you accepted this policy, and whether you opted in to our newsletter.
  • Membership and payment — your plan, subscription status and renewal date. Card details are entered on, and held by, Stripe; we never receive or store your full card number.
  • What you save and search — listings you add to your saved list, and counts of searches and page views per account, which we use to stop automated scraping.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser and device information in our hosting provider's logs, and anonymous, aggregated page-view statistics.

How we use it

  • To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
  • To provide the service you signed up for, including paid features, and to process payments.
  • To send you service emails: account confirmation, password resets, receipts and messages about your membership or saved opportunities. These are part of the service and don't depend on the newsletter setting.
  • To send you our newsletter and new-opportunity emails, but only if you opted in. This is optional, never a condition of having an account, and you can unsubscribe from any email or from your account page at any time.
  • To prevent abuse, fraud and scraping, and to understand in aggregate how the site is used so we can improve it.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for third-party advertising.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run ShutterCalls. They process data on our behalf and only for these purposes:

  • Supabase — database and account sign-in.
  • Stripe — subscription payments and billing.
  • Vercel — website hosting, and cookie-free, anonymous visitor statistics (Vercel Web Analytics).
  • Resend — delivery of sign-in and password emails.
  • Loops — delivery of service emails and, if you opted in, the newsletter. We send Loops your email address, account ID and newsletter choice.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — bot protection on the sign-in and sign-up forms.
  • Meta (Facebook) — only if you choose to sign in with Facebook.

These providers may store data outside your country, including in the United States. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

Job listings are supplied partly by Adzuna. When you follow a link to a job advert, you leave ShutterCalls and that site's own privacy policy applies. We remove tracking parameters from those links so your click isn't attributed to you by us.

Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in, plus Cloudflare Turnstile's bot check on the sign-in forms. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and our visitor statistics don't use cookies at all.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account we remove your personal information within 30 days, except records we must keep by law, such as payment and tax records held by Stripe. Server logs are kept only briefly by our hosting provider.

Your rights and choices

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete the personal information we hold about you, or object to how we use it, by emailing hello@shuttercalls.com. We'll reply within 30 days. You can change your newsletter choice on your account page at any time, and manage or cancel a subscription from there too.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the data-protection authority where you live.

Deleting your data

To delete your ShutterCalls account and its data, email hello@shuttercalls.com from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. If you have an active subscription, please cancel it first from your account page.

If you signed in with Facebook, you can also remove ShutterCalls from Facebook under Settings & privacy → Settings → Apps and websites. That stops Facebook sharing any further data with us. To delete what we already hold, email us as above.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access to our database is restricted by account-level security rules, and payment details stay with Stripe. No service is perfectly secure, but we'll tell you promptly if a breach affects your information.

Children

ShutterCalls is for working photographers and isn't directed at anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes, we'll update the date above and let members know by email or on the site before the changes take effect.
